Xiaomi MI3 Discontinued In India

Our friends from over TechPP has managed to contact Manu Jain, the country head for Xiaomi India. He has confirmed that the development is indeed true. The news about the discontinuation of the MI3 comes as Xiaomi prepares to launch the ultra low cost handset, the Redmi 1S in India starting September 2, 2014. According to Manu, the decision to discontinue the sales of the MI3 in India is temporary. He tells TechPP
Over next few weeks, we will focus on Redmi 1S, and Mi 3 wont be available. We will take the final call after few weeks, once we have more visibility / data points.
The last sale of the Xiaomi MI3 was on August 26 – and like all its previous sales, all the phones were lapped up within seconds. Hugo Barra has confirmed that in all, the company has managed to sell over 95,000 units of the MI3 across India from all of its flash sales. Not an impressive number – but the hype these sales created was huge.
I am still hopeful that Xiaomi is not really serious about permanently discontinuing the sales of the MI3 in India. This decision would only help them earn more brickbats – something the company has already seen thanks to a large number of prospective buyers who were not able to get the phone they so badly wished for. Meanwhile, smart people who were able to get the phone for themselves are now selling it for a premium on Ebay India.
